Since U.S. District Judge Sam Lindsay struck down Ordinance 2903, which would have required apartment complex owners in the City of Farmers Branch to verify and document the citizenship status of their tenants, attorneys for the city have gone back to their drawing boards and come up with another version of the statute.
Just like its predecessor, the new statute - Ordinance 2952 (which goes into effect in 15 days, say city officials) - is designed to keep illegal immigrants from renting a house or apartment in the City of Farmers Branch. In this version of the initiative, prospective renters would be required to obtain a license to rent, by paying $5 to the city and declaring their legal citizenship or residency status.

Suzy Gershman is a shopping goddess and in the book, 'Where to Buy the Best of Everything' (Frommer's/Wiley, $19.99), she lets everyone else in on the secret of shopping well.
Gershman is a serious journalist who happens to love shopping. She considers shopping 'to be as good an indication of sociological and psychological statements about the times and the population as any other medium.' And like any good journalist, she recommends that, first and foremost, shoppers do their research online is fine but in-person research is better. She recommends comparison shopping, visits to museums (especially art, folk art and industrial and product-design museums) and a healthy dose of skepticism
